Dive In. The Water is Fine.
There are currently over 1 billion mobile workers across the globe.
And, if you’re reading this right now, you are likely one of us…or, you will be one day soon. While we represent a diverse cross section of industries and job functions, we share a common trait – we are leaving “work” to get work done. On any given day, we have abandoned our conventional home or corporate office and can be found working at a 3rd place. It might be the coffee shop across the street, a hotel room in a distant city, a coworking space or office center downtown, or a colleague’s empty conference room.
The real breakthrough here is that WE are choosing how and where we work. And, only WE can understand what will make us most productive, today, this hour. Are you hungry for more social interaction this morning? Pack the notebook and finish that report in a favorite café. Client just canceled your afternoon appointment? Spend an extra hour working in the hotel business center. Do you have an important customer presentation tomorrow? Reserve the boardroom in the Office Center.
These can all be great places. Collectively they represent a new and smarter workspace ecosystem, with the new dimension of personal choice.
That’s why we developed LiquidSpace. To let you navigate this workspace ecosystem and find a great space to work, now.
It’s been a busy two months since we first poked our head up at SXSW. There in Austin, with our friends from Turnstone, we set up a collection of cool workspaces and welcomed a few thousand supporters to dive in. The response was overwhelmingly positive. While we left Austin with no shortage of to-do’s to prepare for our production launch, the typical reaction was “Ok. Got it. Love it. When will I be able to LiquidSpace in…Charlotte…Milwaukee…Anchorage…Singapore…Chicago?” Answer? Soon!
We are now thrilled to have started the rollout of LiquidSpace in the SF Bay Area.
In fact, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on the first three great spaces in the San Francisco Bay Area to officially go live in LiquidSpace – NextSpace a longstanding and rapidly expanding pillar of the Coworking community, RocketSpace – a new epicenter for tech startups in SF and Pacific Business Centers – one of the top US operators of high end Office Business Centers. All three are serving a dynamic base of workers ranging from the hottest of new tech startups and social entrepreneurs, to seasoned executives. All three share an understanding that the nature of work is changing and that their spaces must be able to serve their customers when and where needed.
Working on the go is nothing new. Nomadic hunter-gatherers were doing this hundreds of years ago, and today we’re actually not much different. We move from place to place, hunting for great spaces – not only workspaces, but restaurants and hotels that reflect who we are, what we need and what we’re looking for in the moment, gathering up these unique experiences and interactions with the world around us.
What is new is the backstory:
- An expectation for personal choice in how and where we work amongst today’s workforce.
- Cloud and mobile computing technologies that put connectivity, data and collaboration in the palms of our hands.
- A steady and continuing shift toward collaborative and shared workplaces, both public and private.
- A mandate for sustainability, both environmental and economic, in the fabric of our business community and the emergence of a sharing economy.
Our vision for LiquidSpace was drawn from these themes.
The days of the traditional 9-5 are over. Pull the plug. Surrender your desk. Work is quite literally, shifting.
