The Rook Pops Up in San Francisco
We recently had a unique new San Francisco coworking space pop-up on LiquidSpace. Quite literally, The Rook was a pop-up – available for one day only. And it’s popping up again in a new location this Wednesday, February 25. Intrigued? So were we. Read on to learn more.
The Rook is a start-up founded by two Stanford MBA students Virginia Calkins and Carrie Denning, who are developing a membership-model network of urban spaces that merge quiet library, flexible meeting space, and a lively café. They’re currently prototyping with a series of Bay Area pop-up locations as diverse as a shipping container and an art gallery.
The founders devised the concept in response to a number of macro trends in cities: increasing urbanization, growing transience, growth in freelance and work-from-home options, and the shrinking office. With this series of pop-ups, they are exploring how space impacts productivity, community and cross-pollinization.
Come join The Rook’s beta test this Wednesday, February 25 as they pop-up from 9am to 3pm at the Mechanics’ Institute, home to the oldest chess club west of the Mississippi. A drop-in pass to cowork at The Rook’s Work Lab: Mechanics Institute pop-up is just $5, and you can book your spot in advance right here through LiquidSpace or through our mobile app.
